Company

Hearthlight uses AI to dynamically project your financial future, adapting in real-time as you adjust life goals. By connecting your accounts and understanding your aspirations—like buying a home or planning retirement—the platform creates interactive financial roadmaps that evolve with your changing circumstances, showing precise paths to achieve your dreams.

Founders

We met on the YCombinator Matching Platform. We have met in person, in Salt Lake City.

Progress

The projector is live. We are currently conducting user tests of the core functionality.

Cameron has worked on the company full time since October 2023. Charly joined the company in January 2024.

Idea

Cameron was previously working for Saturn, an educational platform. Inspired to see how long he could live off his savings, he built the projector for his own personal finances. His user testing and the own shift in ownership he experienced regarding his relationship to money made him realize the combination of visualizing monetary goals, combined with an approach that felt like the world’s warmest, most compassionate financial advisor at your fingertips, was a hole in the market.

Our banking app is designed to give you a more holistic view of your life goals, moving beyond just numbers to consider the emotional and psychological aspects of financial planning. We understand human psychology and how money intersects with your aspirations, priorities, and lifestyle.

By leveraging the power of future financial projections, our app provides clarity and confidence in your decision-making. Instead of focusing solely on retrospective analysis—like past spending trends or last month's savings rate—we emphasize forward-looking insights. Imagine setting a goal, like buying a home, retiring early, or funding your child’s education. Our app helps you visualize the path to success, breaking it down into actionable steps and tracking progress over time.

We aim to reduce financial anxiety by showing you how small, consistent changes today can create a significant impact on your future. With tools that simulate various scenarios—like career changes, economic shifts, or lifestyle adjustments—we empower you to plan with resilience and optimism. It's not just about managing your money; it's about building the life you want with a clear, informed strategy.

In just two years, our app could generate an estimated $93 million in revenue by capturing 10% of the 31 million millennials actively saving for a home—over 310,000 of whom would convert to paid users. Using a freemium model, we monetize free users through ads and partnerships, while offering premium subscriptions at $100/year or $300 for lifetime access. With millennials prioritizing homeownership as a primary goal, and a TAM of $2.2 trillion in annual mortgage originations, we’re perfectly positioned to become the go-to financial platform for this underserved market. Our combination of psychology-driven tools, forward-looking projections, and actionable financial strategies makes us not just an app, but a movement for the next generation of homeowners.

Charly has a background much like Rory Gilmore in Gilmore Girls, and was amused to find that her interests overlap nearly perfectly with her biological father's. Point, nature.

Curious

Cameron and Charly have both been super plugged into the startup scenes where they've lived (Salt Lake, New York, and as digital nomads), so they've followed YC-backed startups with interest for the 12 years they've been out of college. By going all-in on Hearth, they want to be surrounded by others with the same ethos who are committed to growing AI businesses cutting through legacy systems.
